A dishwasher is ready for haul-away when it is empty, drained, disconnected from water and power, and physically released from the cabinet. If any connection or mounting point remains, the pickup should wait.
Built-in dishwashers need a clear handoff
The removal appointment begins after installation work ends. Ask the installer or another qualified person to disconnect the water supply, drain and electrical connection, remove mounting screws and slide the machine free. Keep the unit upright and secure hoses so they do not drag or leak along the route.
Ready means all five are true
- The racks and detergent compartment are empty.
- No water remains pooled in the tub or hoses.
- Power, water and drain connections are safely detached.
- The appliance is no longer fastened to cabinets or the counter.
- The route to the exterior is open and measured.
Portable and countertop units are different
Portable dishwashers still need to be drained, but they are not mounted into cabinetry. Countertop units may be small enough for ordinary handling; disclose the model size and whether it has a fixed adapter or damaged hose. Never assume “small” means dry or light.
Photograph what the crew cannot guess
Useful photos show the front, both sides once accessible, contained hoses, floor transition and the full path outside. If removal has exposed sharp cabinet edges, note that too.
